China AIs are coming

Weekly round-up of AI news

Good day, humans.

In today's Newsletter we include:

Let's get started!

Here come the AIs from China

New Chinese AI video model surpasses OpenAI

Kuaishou, a Chinese tech company, has introduced Kling, an AI model for generating hyper-realistic videos. Kling can create videos up to two minutes long at 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second, compared to Sora's one-minute videos (which is already impressive compared to what's currently on the market).

Kuaishou claims that Kling accurately simulates the physical properties of the real world, including complex motion sequences. Using a diffusion transformer, it can also combine concepts and create fictional scenes, such as a cat driving a car through a busy city.

Why is this important?

This alternative to Sora is surprising everyone. It seems that China is rapidly catching up with the United States in the field of artificial intelligence.

Apple jumps on the AI bandwagon

Apple to integrate OpenAI's ChatGPT in iOS 18

According to Bloomberg, Apple is expected to integrate OpenAI's ChatGPT into iOS 18 as an optional feature. The next major iOS update will be presented at the WWDC developer event on Monday.

In addition to ChatGPT, the presentation of 'Apple Intelligence,' its foray into modern artificial intelligence for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, is also expected, along with AI enhancements in the search bar, emoji library, and built-in apps. Before choosing ChatGPT, Apple considered Google LLC's Gemini chatbot, but ultimately opted for OpenAI due to its more favorable terms and superior language models.

Why is this important?

Apple has lagged in incorporating AI products and is feeling the pressure, leading it to seek help from outside. We'll have to see what is announced on Monday.

You can now upload your music to Udio

Udio allows custom audio uploads

Udio announced a new experimental feature for paid subscribers: audio uploads. Now you can upload an audio clip of your choice and extend this clip forward or backward by 32 seconds using up to 2 minutes of context.

Why is this important?

Audio uploads greatly enrich prompts. You can use audio to set the tempo and mood, introducing all kinds of sounds, from your own voice to unfinished songs, and let Udio complete them.

Stability AI expands its repertoire with Stable Audio Open

Stability AI has expanded its generative audio repertoire with Stable Audio Open, a freely accessible model trained to produce drum beats, instrument riffs, ambient sounds, and more for music production and sound design purposes.

AI blackout

AI blackout: ChatGPT outage

For a few hours, AI users experienced a traumatic event😉: ChatGPT stopped working for several hours. And not just ChatGPT, but also Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini. No one knows exactly how it happened, but all four services resumed later that same day. If you know a ChatGPT user, give them a hug. They probably need it.

In the future, AI will be able to create web applications

Wix launches a generative AI feature to create mobile apps

Wix, the platform known primarily for its web design tools, is launching a generative AI feature that will allow customers to create and edit iOS or Android apps by describing what they want to see in plain English.

The feature guides users through a chatbot-like interface to understand the goals, intent, and aesthetics of their app. With this information, Wix's AI generates an app that can be customized from the app editor.

Why is this important?

More and more creative applications are incorporating AI into their workflows. However, the results do not always meet the expected promise.
